Before Siri There Was Vlingo

Before the iPhone 4S gave users Siri, there was a similar application available to smartphone users called Vlingo.  Vlingo has been around for years and is available to all smartphone platforms – BlackBerry, Android, Windows, as well as Apple iOS.

Just like Siri, Vlingo turns your words into action on the device.  Need directions?  Want to send a text?  Want to update your Facebook status?  Want to make a call?  Vlingo can do all of that and more!

Below are some examples of what Vlingo can do:

Connect with friends and family

“Where are my friends?”

“Update Facebook status; Headed to New York for the weekend!”

“Call Mom”

“Text Laura; Want to see a movie tonight?”

“Email John; Subject, Running Late; Message, John, I’ll be 10 minutes late for the meeting.”

Find businesses and things to do…

“Call plumber”

“Find a sushi restaurant”

“Movie times in Boston”

“Beachfront hotels in Miami”

“Call Best Buy”

And navigate through your daily life…

“What does poison ivy look like?”

“Get directions to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave”

“Open alarm clock”

Vlingo is currently available for BlackBerry users for FREE as part of the RIM Thank You Gift program for the recent BlackBerry outage.  Download Vlingo from the BlackBerry App Store for free here.  Other smartphone users can get info/download Vlingo from www.vlingo.com.
